Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian can render his calamitous error at Southampton unimportant by showing the right reaction, Georginio Wijnaldum believes.
Just three days after emerging as the Uefa Super Cup penalty shootout hero on his very first start for the club, the Spaniard endured a moment to forget at St Mary’s.
With the Reds seemingly cruising to a comfortable three points, Adrian gifted the hosts a goal as his delay in clearing the ball allowed Danny Ings to close him down and score.
Although Jurgen Klopp’s side held on for a 2-1 victory, they were forced to endure a nervy final 10 minutes in which the Saints piled the pressure on.
Speaking after the Reds clinched all three points, Wijnaldum expressed his view that Adrian’s response will be more important than the mistake itself.

"Those kind of things can happen with a goalkeeper,” the Dutchman said.
“Last season it happened to Alisson against Leicester City and in a pre-season friendly [against Lyon].
“How is he going to react to the mistake? I think that is more important than the mistake itself.
“Everyone can make a mistake, also a goalkeeper. But the only thing is, he is a goalkeeper, and if he makes a mistake, a lot of times, it will result in a goal.”
