Liverpool's out of contract players and where they could go next

It is going to be a very interesting summer at Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to reinvigorate his Reds squad after a disappointing by season by their own high standards. That means a number of incomings are expected once the transfer window opens.

But the Anfield exit door is also going to be busy with at least six players seemingly set to depart the club.

Roberto Firmino has already confirmed he will call time on his eight-year stint at Liverpool once his contract expires, with the Daily Mail reporting that Barcelona look likely to be his next destination.

Four more players are also coming to the end of their contracts with another set to return to his parent club following the end of his loan spell with Reds.

So here we look at what could happen to those players...

Adrian

Having signed a contract extension in June 2021, the Spanish goalkeeper looks likely to end his time with the club this summer.

He has made just one appearance this season - the 3-1 Community Shield victory over Manchester City - and there was talk he was wanted by Real Betis last summer. But for now, who knows where the next step will take the 36-year-old.

Naby Keita

Having rarely featured for the Reds this season, it seems more than likely that the Guinea midfielder will also leave upon the end of his current deal.

Most recently linked with a move to Galatasaray, the 28-year-old has also attracted the attention of Barcelona, Crystal Palace and Inter Milan, with his future something of a mystery to intrigued Liverpool supporters.

James Milner

Perhaps the most likely of the Reds' out-of-contract stars to warrant a new deal, Milner has again proved that age is just a number, filling in at various positions for Klopp this season.

The Reds boss was keen to keep his cards close to his chest regarding any news of fresh terms for the 37-year-old midfielder, though, telling reporters on Friday: ''No. Until we have something to say about it, I would have thought. Whenever that will be."

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Firmly expected to call time on his six-year spell at the club, Oxlade-Chamberlain will depart having claimed honours such as the Champions League, the Premier League and the FA Cup during his time at Anfield.

Another who has failed to make an impact this season, the 29-year-old midfielder has been rumoured to be of interest for Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Brighton, with his services available for free as early as June this year.

Roberto Firmino

The only player from this list to have confirmed his intentions to leave, Firmino will depart as a hero upon his final game for the club against Aston Villa next month.

Currently sidelined with a hamstring problem, the 31-year-old forward is attracting the attention of Barcelona, Galatasaray and even the MLS, having spent eight successful years on Merseyside following his 2015 switch from Hoffenheim.

Arthur Melo

Mustering only 13 senior minutes as a Liverpool player this season, Arthur will return to parent club Juventus after an injury-hit campaign.

Labelled a 'panic buy' after his arrival on a season-long loan, Reds supporters will be hoping this summer's midfield arrivals are an upgrade on the 26-year-old.
