Liverpool's Barcelona beating means NOTHING to title push, insists Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool are on fire — and don’t know the meaning of surrender.

The Reds' boss knows Manchester City are now overwhelming favourites for the title with two games left, even though his side could potentially secure the second highest points total in the top flight history of English football.

He also knows Champions League glory may be out of reach after the Lionel Messi magic show in Barcelona leaves Liverpool 3-0 down going into Tuesday's second leg.

But he says one thing he knows above all else, is his team will never give up while there is still a chance.

“The boys are completely on fire. Completely… and we are ambitious as hell,” he explained.

Liverpool's season deserves praise even if it ends trophyless, not idiots' scorn

“These boys deliver and deliver and deliver — and that is amazing. Yes, it’s true, when you state it like this, in the next week we could end with nothing. Of course we know we can win our Premier League games and still it is not 10 per cent in our hands. But we don’t really think in this way. A lot can happen in the next week, but we didn’t think further than the next game (all season) so why start now?”

And Klopp passionately believes that if his side can pick themselves up from their Nou Camp mauling, they can still put pressure on City.

Liverpool must win away to Newcastle on Saturday night or the Blues, with their superior goal difference, can effectively clinch back-to-back- titles at home to Leicester 48 hours later.

“Whatever happens, it is a special season - I am completely satisfied, now because the season is not over,” he said, defiantly.

“When you are in a race and you can see you can win it, you don’t get tired. You get the boost, like an extra tenth [of a second] and you find something.

“We still try. We are in a very positive mood looking to the Newcastle game we know it is difficult but we still want to play. We want to go there and see what we get from it.

“When we flew home from Barcelona it was all okay. The boys were already completely in the Newcastle game, 100%. We didn’t have to pick up players and give them a hug - that’s in us.

“It’s not like this. In football, if you want to win, you need to accept that you can still lose.”
