Liverpool player worth more than whole Genk squad with £850million gap between Champions League opponents

Mohamed Salah's market value is higher than the entire squad of Liverpool's Champions League's opponents put together, according to newly-released data.

K.R.C. Genk - who returned to Europe's premier competition this season following an eight-year absence - have a squad value of around £110million, football data specialist transfermarkt reveals.

In contrast, Liverpool's Egyptian talisman - who is in contention to return to the Reds side tonight following an ankle injury - is worth £135million.

Overall, Liverpool's squad value this season is approaching the £1billion mark, on the back of high-valued assets like Sadio Mane (£108million), Virgil van Dijk (£90million) and Roberto Firmino (£72million).

Three other players are worth £50million or more: Alisson Becker (£72million), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£72million) and Andy Robertson (£54million).

Gini Wijnaldum (£45million), Fabinho (£45million), Naby Keita (£45million), Jordan Henderson (£31.5million), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (£31.5million), Joe Gomez (£31.5million) and Xherdan Shaqiri (£22.5million) are the next most valuable players at Jurgen Klopp's disposal.

Liverpool's total squad is worth a little over £967million, transfermarkt claims, around £857million more than tonight's opponents.

For Genk, almost a fifth of their squad value stems from their Norwegian midfield prodigy, Sander Berge (19.8million), who has been tipped to spearhead a new 'golden generation' alongside the likes of Martin Odegaard and Erling Braut Haland.

Danish full-back Joakim Maehle (£8.1million), Colombian centre-half Jhon Lucumi (£7.2million) and Belgian midfielder Bryan Heynen (£6.3million) are all 22 or younger in a Genk side with some potential.

Tanzanian forward Mbwana Samatta (£10.8million) - who scored in their 6-2 demolition by Red Bull Salzburg in September - is Genk's second-most valuable player.

Genk's previous Champions League campaign in 2011/12 saw the emergence of Kevin de Bruyne, who featured in the team's 5-0 defeat by Chelsea that season before joining the club the following year.

Former Liverpool forward Christian Benteke, who would join Aston Villa the following season, was also on the roster.
