Liverpool player ratings as Roberto Firmino brilliant and Luis Diaz shines in NINE goal victory

Alisson Becker 7

Off his line quickly with a couple of hurried clearances under pressure. One simple save from a Kieffer Moore header. Spectator in the second half as he picked up his clean sheet bonus.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 9

Stunning goal for Liverpool’s third, giving Travers no chance from distance. Set up the Mepham own goal with a trademark cross. Barely tested defensively.

Joe Gomez 7

Another comfortable display defensively. Passed it out well from the back and played a part in creating Alexander-Arnold’s goal.

Virgil van Dijk 8

Initially had a challenge on his hands in Moore and was beaten in the air to one header, but grew in confidence as Liverpool’s lead grew. Even went on one solo-run forward before whipping out those diagonal trademark long-balls. Then headed home the fifth on the stroke of half-time. Cruise control after the break.

Andy Robertson 8

Headed over one chance at the far post. Never stopped running, either offensively or defensively. Linked up well with Diaz. Set up Van Dijk’s goal with a well-taken corner then played a part in creating Firmino’s second.

Harvey Elliott 8

What a way to open his Premier League account! Stunning first-time effort from the edge of the box. Not everything came off but enthusiastic as ever and pressed hard. Brilliant link up play with Firmino and Diaz to nearly set up Salah with a low cross. Hopefully just a precaution when withdrawn at the break.

Fabinho 8

Much improved from the Brazilian. Showed some neat turns in midfield to start a number of Liverpool attacks and as impressive as ever winning the ball back.

Jordan Henderson 7

Still taking some getting used to playing a bit more withdrawn role on the left-hand side. Not every pass came off but led by example. Unimpressed to be withdrawn.

Mohamed Salah 7

The most surreal of scenarios where Liverpool score nine, yes nine, and he’s not involved in any directly. Missed two sitters from close-range, while he was admittedly unfortunate not to score with a volley on his weaker foot from Firmino’s chipped Did inadvertently play a part in two goals though, as his cut out passes created unintentional chances.

Roberto Firmino 10

Welcome back, Bobby! Two assists inside six minutes, a ‘hat-trick’ before the half-hour mark and then a goal for good measure. Gifted a tap-in on the hour-mark for his brace. The perfect way to silence your doubters. Involved in everything, great cross for Diaz’s opener. Could have had another assist and another goal if not for two good Travers saves.

Luis Diaz 9

Brilliant looping header to open the scoring to send Liverpool on their way, and another header made it 9-0. Some smart tricks and flicks resulted in increasingly heavy-handed treatment at the hands of Bournemouth’s defence but took it in his stride. Went upfront in the second half.

Fabio Carvalho (On for Elliott, 46) 8

Stunning volley to open his account in front of the Kop after being pushed forward. Pressed hard to help win back possession inside the Bournemouth defensive third to earn applause from the Kop. Helped Robertson create Firmino’s second.

Kostas Tsimikas (On for Robertson, 69) 8

Perfect cushioned pass to set up Carvalho before setting up Diaz’s second from a corner.

James Milner (On for Firmino, 69) 7

Came on in midfield, finished the game at right-back as Klopp handed out the debuts. With five subs to play with, watch him wrack up the substitute minutes.

Stefan Bajcetic (On for Henderson, 69) 7

Perfect opportunity to give the youngster his Premier League debut, lining up in a more advanced number eight role.

Bobby Clark (On for Alexander-Arnold, 83) N/A

Hello there. If you can’t give him a debut when 8-0 up, when can you?
