Liverpool player named in list of richest sports stars in UK

Only one Liverpool player has been named in The Sunday Times Rich List - and the name may come as a surprise to Reds fans.

The list reveals the richest 17 sports stars under the age of 30 and includes both those from the UK and those based in the UK.

Whilst Manchester City and Manchester United stars topped the rankings, it was Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge who was named near the top of the list, with Everton's Theo Walcott preceding him.

The Reds and England striker joined Liverpool from Chelsea in January 2013, and quickly started making his mark alongside former Liverpool player Luis Suarez with goal after goal.

In the new rankings Sturridge has seen his wealth rise £3million to £22m, whilst Walcott saw his rise from £26m to £29m.

Northern Ireland golfer Rory McIlroy was named as Britain's wealthiest sports star aged under 30 for the second consecutive year.

His fortune increased by £28m to £138m.
