Liverpool is officially home to one of the best pies in the UK.
Anfield’s award-winning pie shop Homebaked won top prizes at the British Pie Awards this weekend, walking away with 12 medals.
The community bakery, which launched in 2013, also came in second in the Meat and Potato Pie category.
Homebaked’s Shankly Pie, a steak and mushroom pie named in honour of one of Liverpool FC ’s most famous managers, took home a gold medal.
The bakery shared the news on Facebook in a post which read: “We are absolutely buzzing to achieve such acclaim. Once again, a big thank you to all of our staff & volunteers who make this all possible.
“And also a big thanks to YOU, our customers, for your continued and unwavering support.”
Sally-Anne Watkiss, Homebaked treasurer, said: “As there were 850 pies entered from 150 pie producers it is another fabulous achievement for a small community owned bakery based in Anfield.”
Homebaked has become an LFC match-day tradition, with football fans swarming to the bakery ahead of kick-off for their favourite pies, sausage rolls, cakes and hot drinks.
City centre bakery The Gluten Free Pie Company also took home three silver medals for its vegan pies, while Crosby-based Satterthwaites Bakehouse won two bronze medals.
