Liverpool news: Three squad additions identified as Juventus 'target' Roberto Firmino

Three Liverpool youngsters have been identified by coach Pep Ljinders as potential squad players ahead of next season.

The Reds will have a few new faces come the new season following the arrivals of Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay. But they may not be the only new players welcomed into Jurgen Klopp's first-team squad, with Ljinders keen to give chances to a number of youngsters he thinks are capable of making the step up.

It comes as the Reds have been offered a swap deal for Adrien Rabiot by Juventus, but the Italian outfit want Roberto Firmino as part of the deal. And Liverpool risk repeating their old transfer mistakes with Mohamed Salah's future still uncertain.

Liverpool coach Pep Ljinders thinks Bobby Clark, Luke Chambers, Stefan Bajcetic could make the step up to the first-team in pre-season.

Jurgen Klopp has not been afraid to hand opportunities to young players, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harvey Elliot establishing themselves under the Reds boss. And Ljinders thinks he knows the next three players on the production line.

He says it would be "important for them to have a proper pre-season to know exactly how we want to do things" – hinting that they could be handed first-team opportunities next season.

And they could offer Liverpool the opportunity to add to their midfield ranks by including Adrien Rabiot as part of the deal.

Reds risk repeating old transfer mistakes

Liverpool risk repeating the transfer mistakes that have seen the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can leave the club in recent years.

Negotiations with star forward Mohamed Salah over a new contract show no signs of a breakthrough despite the Egyptian's contract being due to expire in a year's time. The Reds forward would normally command a substantial transfer fee, with it suggested he's valued at around £81million.

But with just 12 months left on his contract at Liverpool, the Reds face losing a significant amount should he leave the club for free – which is exactly what happened a year ago with Wijnaldum.
