Liverpool morning headlines as Barcelona transfer links emerge and Lallana replacement highlighted

Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for Monday, March 30:

Players to be locked down in bid to finish season?

With Liverpool within touching distance of securing a first league title for 30 years, everyone connected with the club will want to finish the 2019/20 season in any way possible.

One idea reportedly on the table is for Premier League squads to be kept under strict quarantine in hotels for a month, and playing the remaining matches behind closed doors in a short timeframe.

This would theoretically take place in June or July, according to reports that have emerged in the national media.

The campaign needs to end as soon as it possibly can, but the safety of the players, support staff and the wider public is obviously of paramount importance.

The current TV deal ends in mid-July, and broadcasters from overseas are reportedly pushing hard to see that the 2019/20 season reaches a full conclusion.

Liverpool to make move for Barcelona star?

Rumours continue to mount that Jürgen Klopp will make a big money signing in the next transfer window and secure some fresh blood for his team’s front line.

Reports have emerged from Spain that Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele is one man they are keen to sign.

The French international cost the Catalan club €105million in 2017, but has struggled with form and fitness, making just 35 La Liga starts in three seasons. But that hasn’t deterred Liverpool, according to Diario Sport.

They claim that Barca have declared that he is not for sale, but that the Reds hope to snap him up for £90million.

Reds to promote from within to replace Lallana?

With Adam Lallana’s six-year Liverpool career coming to an end this season, Liverpool will need to replace him.

But according to Josh Williams, of the Analysing Anfield podcast, the player they need is already on the books and in need of further game time: Curtis Jones.

Williams said: “With Lallana leaving, that’s about £100,000-a-week off the wage bill if you bring Jones through - he could feature a little more in the league next season as opposed to just the League Cup.

“He needs to become a little bit more disciplined in his decisions - and I think he will. He’s naturally a little more attacking and will take risks.

“Traditionally, over the years, Klopp’s midfielders have been a little more reserved and I think Jones will follow Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and James Milner.”
