Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane is set to join Barnsley in a permanent deal today.
Reports last night claimed Kane would initially sign for the Championship outfit on loan but the ECHO understands a seven-figure agreement has been struck with the Premier League champions.
The 21-year-old midfielder held interest from other clubs in the Championship but Barnsley were keen to push through a permanent transfer.
Kane made his senior Liverpool debut in the Carabao Cup last season before joining Hull City on loan for the remainder of the campaign in January. He had previously been named in the League One team of the season following an impressive spell at Doncaster Rovers in 2018-19.
Barnsley are searching for their first win of the Championship campaign and host Bristol City on Saturday.
With the European transfer window closing last week, Liverpool have until 5pm this evening to do business with sides in the Football League.
It is potentially set to be a busy day for the Reds.
Liverpool have no inclination to bring in a goalkeeper having dismissed suggestions last weekend of rumoured interest in Stoke City’s Jack Butland.
But several other players could potentially be on the move today, including Harry Wilson and Nat Phillips.
