Liverpool lose member of backroom staff after Robbie Keane raids former club

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane has added a highly-valued member of Jurgen Klopp's' backroom staff to his ranks at Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The former Republic of Ireland international, who played for Liverpool during the 2008-2009 season in between spells at Tottenham Hotspur, was appointed as the head coach of the Israeli side in June. The role came just weeks after he left his post as assistant manager at Leeds United following their relegation to the Championship.

The 42-year-old will now be joined in Tel Aviv by Liverpool analyst Dominic Price, who spent over 10 years at Anfield after first joining the club as part of their International Football Academies project in 2011 and later enjoyed success in roles at the club's Kirkby-based Academy. Price will now work as technical director at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

It is not the first time that Price has departed the Reds, however, as he did so in the summer of 2020, albeit only briefly, to join Blackpool as a first-team analyst. His stay at Bloomfield Road, though, lasted less than two years before he returned to Merseyside to work closely with Klopp's assistant Peter Krawietz and his team of data analysts.

After securing the services of Price on Monday, Maccabi Tel Aviv's CEO, Ben Mansford, said: “Dominic will manage all technical aspects of the first team operations including recruitment, performance analysis, sports science data and its interaction with the medical department.

“Dominic will also further embed best practice across Maccabi’s youth academy in the same areas as we look to drive forward with greater analysis and integration of data to support the club’s continued progression.

“We are convinced Dominic’s proven skills and attributes will help push Maccabi forward.”

Price is the Reds' latest member of staff to call time on their position at Anfield, with former sporting director Julian Ward and director of research Dr Ian Gramah both leaving the club earlier this year.
