Liverpool 'interested' in Josko Gvardiol as RB Leipzig transfer stance emerges

Liverpool are once again being linked with a move for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

The Reds have been frequently linked with a move for the centre-back since the end of the World Cup. Gvardiol starred for Croatia as he helped his country reach the semi-final of the competition in Qatar.

Midfield has been the area of the pitch that has seen the majority of transfer rumours centred around when it comes to Liverpool. However, Gvardiol is one player who continues to be linked with a move to Anfield.

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are indeed interested in signing Gvardiol in the summer. The report states that the defender is “on the list” for the Reds’ possible transfer targets at the end of the season.

However, the report states that despite this update, talks between Liverpool and Leipzig are “not hot” at the moment, with no negotiations going on between the two clubs.

Leipzig are said to be determined to keep hold of their star defender, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid also being linked with the player. It has been reported that Gvardiol has a €‎110 million (£98m) release clause in his contract, but that it does not become active until the summer of 2024.
