Liverpool 'interest' in Matthijs De Ligt 'cannot be overlooked' as rumoured target rejects contract

Liverpool's summer business is well underway after they wrapped up a deal for Benfica striker earlier this week. The Uruguayan joins Fabio Carvalho as a new arrival ahead of the new season.

The club are also believed to be closing in on a deal for Aberdeen right back Calvin Ramsay and there are a number of potential departures anticipated. There's still plenty of time in the transfer window for deals to go ahead.

Here's a round-up of all the latest transfer gossip from in and around Anfield.

Who?

Matthijs De Ligt

Where?

Calciomercato

What?

Liverpool and Chelsea are among the clubs 'interested' in Juventus defender Matthijs De Ligt, according to reports in Italy.

Calciomercato claims contract negotiations between the player and the Serie A giants are 'progressing slowly' due to a disagreement over a release clause. The 22-year-old is currently under contract until 2024.

However, the article adds that both the Reds and Chelsea are poised to 'take advantage' should an agreement not be reached. The latter has reportedly been keen for some time, but the Italian outlet insist the interest from Merseyside 'cannot be overlooked'.

While Liverpool have previously been linked with the Dutchman prior to his move to Juventus, Jurgen Klopp has a number of quality centre-backs at his disposal. Ibrahima Konate only joined last summer, so there will likely be other areas of the squad that need upgrading first.

Who?

Rafael Leao

Where?

La Stampa

What?

Rumoured Liverpool target Rafael Leao has 'rejected' a contract offer from AC Milan, reports claim.

La Stampa say the Portuguese international has turned down a two-year contract extension that included a significant pay rise. The 23-year-old is currently under contract until 2024.

Liverpool are among the clubs that have previously been linked with the winger, although Arsenal are also said to be interested and Manchester City has emerged as a potential destination.

Who?

Divock Origi

Where?

Italian journalist Antonio Vitiello

What?

Divock Origi is edging closer to a move to AC Milan, according to recent reports.

The Belgium international is available on a free transfer this summer and has long been tipped to join the Serie A club. That move appears to be entering the final stages if recent news is anything to go by.

Italian journalist Antonio Vitiello says the 27-year-old will be in Milan next week and the 'countdown' has started for the move to be completed.
