Liverpool game next is 'perfect' for Man United says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says playing Liverpool next is "perfect" for his 12th-placed side.

United were defeated 1-0 away at Newcastle this afternoon, their third loss in eight league games this term.

Liverpool are eight points clear of Man City at the top of the table going into the international break.

Jurgen Klopp's side have won all eight Premier League games so far this campaign and 17 in a row going back into last season.

But the United boss believes hosting the Reds at Old Trafford in two weeks is the ideal way to bounce back.

After today's defeat, the BBC quoted Solskjaer as saying: "The Liverpool game next is the perfect one for us."

He was also asked what the solutions are to United's current problems.

Solskjaer replied: "That's the million dollar question. If you only work on sunny days, you’ll never get to your destination."

And addressing the loss to Newcastle, he added: "We're disappointed. We did lack quite a few key players but that's no excuse.

"The players worked hard and ran their socks off but at the moment we're in a place we're not used to.

"Some of the boys lack a little bit of composure and we don't create enough chances to win a game of football.

"They stay together as a team but we don't create. Luckily for us it's now the international break.

"We get time to evaluate what's gone on over these eight games. We will sit down, hopefully we'll get a few players back.

"It's my responsibility. I need to sort their heads out.

"Young boys lacking confidence - they need some help from experienced players and staff."

United made an early decision not to take a risk with Paul Pogba today, after he has struggled with foot and ankle injuries in recent weeks.

But it is believed he will be back for the Liverpool match on 20th October.

Speaking on Friday, Solskjaer said: "[Pogba] probably won’t be available on Sunday.

"There's an international break as well, it might be time for us to give him 10 or 14 days extra to be ready for Liverpool."

Solskjaer is under increasing pressure with poor performances having left United in the bottom half of the table, just two points above the relegation zone.

But he is clearly hoping a result against the unbeaten Reds later this month can kickstart his team's campaign.
