Unsung heroes keeping the city healthy while the coronavirus pandemic rages on were given an unexpected boost by Liverpool FC.
More than 300 delighted pharmacists across Merseyside received a delivery of specially baked cookies from staff at the club and the LFC Foundation.
The white chocolate and raspberry and double chocolate cookies, baked at Anfield, arrived alongside a letter thanking pharmacy workers for their dedication while most people remained at home.
Matt Parish, LFC Foundation director, said: “This is just a small token of our appreciation and thanks to pharmacists and pharmacy staff who are working on the frontline daily, away from their families, and being so selfless to help provide essential support.
“We hope these treats put a smile on their faces and act as a reminder of our heartfelt thanks.”
One pharmacy worker, Danielle Drinkel of PA White Chemist in North Road, St Helens, told the ECHO: "We received some today and it was a lovely gesture.
"I thought it was lovely."
A letter accompanying the treats said: "Please accept these yummy cookies as a little gesture from everybody at Liverpool Football Club and the LFC Foundation to say thank you for the incredible work that you are doing during the coronavirus outbreak.
"You are doing such a valuable and important role supporting our communities and we understand that during these very difficult circumstances, you are leaving your families and loved ones at home to provide this vital service.
"We think you are amazing. Thank you so much for all you are doing to help people in out city during this extraordinary time."
