Liverpool FC fan collapses in bus queue to watch match at Anfield

Concerns have been raised for a Liverpool FC fan seen who had apparently collapsed outside St George's Hall while boarding a bus to watch the match at Anfield .

The man, said to be in his 60s and wearing a Liverpool shirt, was seen by passersby having his chest pumped by ambulance crews in the square next to Lime Street Station at around 11am this morning.

Ted Bemand from Wirral, was "shocked" to witness the scene, surrounded by a queue of hundreds of Liverpool fans who were boarding buses to Anfield.

Ted who initially thought the group of paramedics were training on a dummy, soon realised the matter was "serious" and on stepping closer to the scene he was told it had been going on for 20 minutes.

The 77-year-old told the ECHO: "I was walking along St George's Plateau with my uncle when I saw this group of football supporters wearing Liverpool shirts and this man was having his chest pumped by paramedics.

"At first I thought it was a practice session for the medics but as I got closer I could see the paramedics really going at this mans chest and I thought this is serious.

"A lady next to us said this has been going on for about 20 minutes."

Ted said that an ambulance then appeared, and the man was put onto a stretcher, and it "shot off".

He said: "It was a really sad thing to see."

Madu Lafayette, another fan queuing for the buses to Anfield, got in touch to share his concern for the man.

He said: "I was queuing for the buses taking us to Anfield. A large number of fans were watching him being treated."

North West Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
