Liverpool FC 'considering former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay transfer'

Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay is being 'carefully monitored' by Liverpool 'especially in light' of Real Madrid's interest in Sadio Mane, according to reports.

Memphis was very highly rated and excitement was high when United snagged him from PSV for £30m in 2015 but the Dutchman endured a difficult time at Old Trafford.

He struggled for form and confidence under Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho and left for Ligue 1 side Lyon just 18 months after his arrival in Manchester.

Since moving to France Memphis has developed into a brilliant striker and is a vital player for both club and country and French publication L'Equipe reports the 25-year-old feels he has 'outgrown' Lyon and is looking for another chance at a giant European club.

United still have a buy-back clause on Memphis but it's unknown if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has any interest in bringing him back to the club.

L'Equipe claim Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Memphis' situation and see him as a possible replacement for Mane, who has been linked with a move to La Liga giants Madrid as an alternative if they fail to sign Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

Meanwhile, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has ‘already decided he will leave the club’ for Real Madrid in the summer, according to reports.

The Frenchman added fuel to speculation during the international break by saying: “Like I’ve always said, Real Madrid s a dream for anyone. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Manchester United might have a surprise new contender to be the next club captain

“There is also [Zinedine] Zidane as a coach and it’s a dream for anybody who likes football.

“For now, I’m at Manchester. We don’t know what the future holds. I’m at Manchester and I’m happy.”

However, according to Spanish publication Marca, Pogba has ‘made his mind up’ to leave for the Spanish capital when the transfer window opens.

It’s reported that United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already aware of the decision but is saying the opposite in order to buy the club time and ‘feels he will have no choice but to listen to offers.’

Though it’s also claimed by Marca that Solskjaer would like to raid Madrid for Raphael Varane and Gareth Bale.

United resigned Pogba from Juventus for a British transfer record of £94.5m in 2016.
