Trent Alexander-Arnold has spoken out for the first time since it was announced he was pulling out of England's squad to feature in this summer's Euro 2020.
The Liverpool defender pulled up in the last minutes of England's friendly win at the Riverside Stadium, and was in visible discomfort when limping down the tunnel.
And a scan on Thursday has confirmed that Alexander-Arnold has suffered a grade two quad tear and is now set for a recovery period of four to six weeks.
It meant the fullback will miss this summer's rescheduled tournament after working so hard to fight his way back into England manager Gareth Southgate's plans.
Now, Alexander-Arnold has broken his silence on the matter with a short statement on twitter.
In a short, two word post, he tweeted: "Absolutely gutted."
He will now start focusing on his rehabilitation in time for Liverpool's return to pre-season training on Monday 12 July.
Southgate will name a replacement for Alexander-Arnold but will delay the decision until after Sunday’s warm-up fixture against Romania, with Jesse Lingard, James Ward-Prowse, Ollie Watkins, Aaron Ramsdale, Ben Godfrey and Ben White the players vying to step up, having initially been named in England's provisional 33-man squad.
