Liverpool change of direction with Ibrahima Konate transfer as Fernando Torres sends cryptic message

Here’s your Liverpool morning digest for Wednesday May 26.

Ibrahima Konate transfer signals change of direction for Liverpool recruitment

Liverpool are already pushing ahead with grand plans to land Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

Talks are underway with regards to paying his £40m buyout clause.

That the club are planning for a marquee signing in their defensive department should come as no shock.

Liverpool's centre-back division have offered plenty of overtime for the club's medical team this season, that is certain.

Barely a game has gone by without Jurgen Klopp having to rejig at the heart of his backline.

That much is evidenced by the fact he was forced to name 20 different tandems last term.

But after patching up and plastering over for virtually the entirety of the last eight months, a big-money move for Konate is one that looks unflinchingly towards the long term at Anfield.

It will not be a short-term arrival or a stop-gap signing.

No, Konate's signature will signal a change of direction as far as the recent recruitment of Liverpool defenders goes.

The France Under-21 defender celebrated just his 22nd birthday on Tuesday and is set for a bright career at the top end of European football.

Liverpool hope that a large portion of it will be with them as they step up their efforts to trigger that release clause.

Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres sends cryptic message

Fernando Torres has set tongues wagging after hinting he could be about to reverse his decision to retire from football.

The former Liverpool striker hung up his boots in August 2019 after finishing his career in Japan with Sagan Tosu.

In recent months the Spaniard has taken up boxing and shocked fans with a muscular transformation.

However, his latest post on Instagram has suggested he could be about to dust off his boots and continue his football career.

Posting a picture of a greyed out number nine shirt, he wrote: "I only understand life in one way: playing. Therefore, I have decided to return. This Friday I will communicate where #returnsthechild #Ireturntoplay".
