Liverpool boss Arne Slot on the verge of sack: report

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is facing serious pressure.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is on the verge of being sacked after his side's 4-1 defeat to PSV in the Champions League.

The Reds have now lost 9 of their last 12 games in all competitions, with Wednesday's latest defeat putting huge pressure on the club's board to act now to save their season.

Liverpool have already slumped to 11th in the Premier League table and are about to lose Mohamed Salah to the Africa Cup of Nations in the next few weeks.

What appears more baffling is the fact Liverpool spent so heavily across the summer, bringing in the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak, which all in all cost over £400m.

But even with talent pouring out from his ears, Slot's second-season slump hasn't been forgiving after losses to Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Chelsea and most recently, PSV.

According to the latest news from Spain, Slot is now facing the sack, after members of the board have expressed how they feel the Merseysiders have 'lost their emotional and tactical foundations'.

Furthermore, the report states how 'there is a feeling that a disconnect between the squad and the manager is evident' with Isak a prime example of a player who cannot seem to find his form, amid questions over his bumper price tag.

The former Feyenoord boss did admit in his post-match press conference that he does feel support from those above him at Anfield, but for how long that lasts remains to be seen.

"Yeah, but not in the sense that they tell me every single minute, ‘We support you, we support you, we support you,’ but we talk a lot if we are winning, like last season, and if we are losing," responded Slot when asked if he feels pressure.

"Then they are helpful to me, to the team, so yes, we do have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to tell me that they still trust me. But we do have the normal conversations and in those conversations I feel the trust, but I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet, so let’s see."

In FourFourTwo's view, modern football is unforgiving, and should the Reds fail to win or even draw at West Ham over the weekend, it is hard to see how Slot survives after that.

Among the favourites to take over in the report are Jurgen Klopp and Andoni Iraola, with former Spurs and Notts Forest boss Ange Postecoglou named as a potential candidate too.

With talk of a move for Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo rumbling on, too, could we see Liverpool take a double scoop of the Cherries' fortunes this January?
