Liverpool and Merseyside theatres pay tribute to the Queen

Theatres and event spaces across Liverpool and Merseyside have paid their respects after the death of the Queen.

Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle yesterday afternoon, September 8, marking the end to her 70 year reign. She will be buried 10 days after her death on what will be a day of national mourning.

The Queen was the UK's longest serving monarch. Across the country, businesses, venues, stores and people alike have shared their grief. In Liverpool and beyond, theatres and events venues have taken to social media to show their respect in a variety of ways.

The Everyman & Playhouse

The two theatres, which work in partnership with one another, lit up their buildings in purple to pay tribute to the Queen. In a statement on Instagram, the theatres said: "It is with great sadness to learn that Her Majesty the Queen has died. Our thoughts are with The Royal Family".

In a comment, the theatres added: "Our theatres remain open, with shows continuing as planned but as a mark of respect, we have lit our buildings in purple". The Everyman Theatre is based on Hope Street, while the Playhouse can be found on Williamson Square.

The Empire

The Liverpool Empire echoed such sentiments with a post on Instagram. It reads: "Everyone at Ambassador Theatre Group is saddened to hear the news that Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has passed away.

"We send our condolences to the Royal Family and everyone connected to Her Majesty." The Empire Theatre is based on Lime Street, L1 1JE.

The Epstein Theatre

In a statement on Instagram, the Hanover Street theatre paid its respects. It said: "Everyone at the Epstein Theatre join the nation and the world in mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family at this difficult time."

The Royal Court

The Royal Court also took to Instagram to pay tribute to the monarch. It shared a black and white portrait of the Queen. Captioning the image, the theatre, which is based on Roe Street in the city centre, simply said: "Rest in peace HRH Queen Elizabeth II."

Shakespeare North Playhouse

The Prescot based theatre took to Twitter, where it shared the official Royal Family announcement of the Queen's passing. The venue said: "Following the news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen, Shakespeare North Playhouse send our condolences to the Royal Family at this time of national mourning." It also shared the post to its Instagram Stories.

St Helens Theatre Royal

The theatre shared an image of the Queen, complete with a purple border and text below it which reads: "St. Helens Theatre Royal are deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and share the nation's sorrow. We sent our condolences to the Royal Family and everyone connected to Her Majesty."

The Atkinson

The Southport based venue took to Twitter to share its condolences. It said: "The Atkinson is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time."

In addition, the theatre shared Sefton Council's statement, which reads: "We are saddened by the death of Her Majesty the Queen and send condolences to her family. As a mark of respect, all flags at Council buildings will be lowered to half-mast. Details regarding memorial services, books of condolence and floral tributes will be released shortly."

M&S Bank Arena

The events venue took to Twitter and shared a black and white image of the Queen. Above it, it said: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Your Majesty."

Liverpool Philharmonic

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, based on Hope Street, also shared an image of the Queen to its following. Captioning the picture, the famed venue penned: "We join together with the nation in mourning Her Majesty The Queen, our Patron since 1958.

"Her Majesty was a supporter of the arts across the UK. Everyone at Liverpool Philharmonic sends their deepest sympathies to the Royal Family at this time."
