Liverpool and Man City set for transfer battle over Brazil's 'next big thing'

Liverpool and Manchester City are set to go toe-to-toe in a transfer battle for Brazilian wonderkid Reinier.

The two Premier League giants are reportedly keeping tabs on the 17-year-old, who is currently playing for Flamengo in his homeland.

Although he is yet to make a senior appearance for Flamengo, many are considering Reinier as one of the brightest talents currently coming out of Brazil.

Any deal for Reinier would have to go through in January after the player turns 18.

His current contract with his club runs until December 2020.

But the Daily Mail report that a deal could be struck in a similar way to how Watford signed Fluminense's Joao Pedro earlier this year.

Watford paid a fee to secure the deal once he turns 18 at the end of September.

Reinier was reported earlier this year to have a release clause in his contract of €70million (£62m) but a deal would likely be stuck for much less.

Liverpool and City are showing especially keen interest, according to reports, but Barcelona , AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Everton are all said to be keen.

Everton made enquiries for him earlier this year.

Reinier is currently with the Brazil Under-17 squad and a host of scouts will likely be in attendance when they take on Paraguay this week.
