As it happened: France pays tribute to ex-president Jacques Chirac

Former French president Jacques Chirac, a centre-right politician who served as head of state from 1995 to 2007, died on Thursday at the age of 86, his family announced. Read our live blog below for all the reactions and tributes.

Chirac died 'peacefully, among his loved ones', his son-in-law said.
A public ceremony will be held on Sunday at the Invalides memorial complex in Paris.
France has declared a national day of mourning on Monday 30 September.
A commemorative service will be held for Chirac on Monday at Saint-Sulpice church.
