If you loved Netflix's take on Little House on the Prairie and want more, don't worry — it was renewed for season 2 long before we even saw a single episode.
With production now in full swing, we still don't know exactly when new episodes will be released (though I'd bet good money on that being in mid-2027). However, we do know that season 2 will adapt the next book in Laura Ingalls Wilder's original novel series, On the Banks of Plum Creek.
Having left their little house on the Kansas prairie, which is exactly what we saw at the end of season 1, the Ingalls family travels by wagon to Minnesota, settling on the banks of Plum Creek (who'd have guessed?).
But will Netflix stay faithful to the text or add in some unexpected surprises along the way? According to star Alice Halsey, who plays Laura Ingalls, it's best to keep an open mind heading into Little House on the Prairie season 2.
'I want to be able to figure out how Laura changes in season 2'
"Season 2 is definitely gonna be really exciting," Halsey tells me. "They're going to build a house by a creek, they're going to plant lots of wheat. They might make some friends, but they will make one particular enemy."
Here, Halsey is referring to Laura's rival Nellie, who is set to be introduced at some point in season 2. Played by Willa Dunn, Nellie is described in the book as a spoiled, affluent classmate who represents the clash between town merchants and rural farming families.
"I think that there's gonna be a lot of exciting things happening on the prairie, and some things that you might not expect."
The book covers a five-year span of Wilder's childhood, so we could see the Ingalls stay there for a while should the Netflix series continue to be renewed.
But how is Laura herself set to change? "I think that being able to watch season 1 has been a big reminder to me that Laura is like a big character," Halsey continues. "She has a lot of growth over the course of the series, and in the books. I want to be able to figure out how Laura changes in season 2, how all that was gonna plan out.
"For season 1, I was really prepped. I wanted to figure out how I was going to portray her. read the books, scripts, listened to podcasts to really figure her out. I think that Laura is also going to be changing a lot. In season 2, and I think her arc might be revolving around figuring out the kind of person that she wants to be.
"Not just her career and stuff, but also if she want to be honest, or have a lot of friends. Does she want to be tutor herself? Little things like that."
It's really a marvel that Halsey is only 11 years old, but I think that her wise-beyond-her-years personality makes her Laura Ingalls exceptional... and will continue to.
