Listen to the new Beyoncé track Ring Off

Beyonce Knowles: new songs
Beyonce Knowles: what does it all mean? Photograph: Broadimage/REX

Such is the mega star status of Beyoncé, that even her most frivolous lyrics demand mass analysis. From her own creations (Surfbort, Bootylicious) to giving the humble watermelon a new lease of life, the phrases she uses are a powerful tool for the pop figure to prompt widespread influence and debate. So when it was announced that a song entitled Ring Off would be featured on her forthcoming Beyoncé boxset release, crisis stories regarding her marriage with Jay Z did, inevitably, begin to tumble in.

There’s not a great deal to discover under the lid of these new tunes however: emerging online this week – Ring Off, which includes lyrics such as “I wish he said I’m beautiful” and “So tired of the lies and trying and fighting and crying” - are clearly from the third person perspective rather than an account of her own relationship.

Ring Off featurea on the double CD package which is out in December. As well as the previously unveiled Flawless Remix featuring Nicki Minaj, brand new collaborations with Kanye West, Pharrell and Mr Vegas will also be included.

Take a listen to the track below and let us know what sociopolitical messages we might be missing.
