Listen to the Moon has become one of my favourite books. It is about the amazing and monstrous first world war.
Alfie, a kind hearted but mischievous boy and one of my favourite characters, goes out with his father one day to fish for their dinner. They both hear a strange wailing so they investigate. They go into a deep, dark cave and to their utter surprise find a young girl as cold as ice and as broken as glass. The girl starts to die, and before she faints she says one small word: ‘Lucy.’
Back at their home they find that the girl can’t speak, or that she doesn’t want to. She is getting better but strange things are happening. People think she is a German spy. People say she is a mermaid. People don’t know what to think.
I loved this book so much because of the way it is written and the kinds of people involved. I loved how the story flowed and how whenever I read it I would be entranced by all of the wonderful things Michael Morpurgo had written. The storyline is amazing and the sense of mystery is complex and beautiful. It is nothing like anything I have read before and I adored it! You must read this book to find out the mysteries inside its lively pages!
