List of counties set to be worst hit by Storm Aiden in next 24 hours

Twelve counties look set to get hit with the worst of Storm Aiden in the next 24 hours as it smashes in from the Atlantic.

Met Eireann has issued a status orange warning for a dozen counties, although at various times on Saturday.

The forecaster is expecting winds of up to 130km/h in parts as the weather front arrives.

Here's a look at which counties are expected to be worst hit by the storm.

Counties under orange warning

Saturday 5am to 10am

Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

The forecaster said: "On Saturday morning strong southerly winds veering southwesterly associated with Storm Aiden will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80km/h, with severe and damaging gusts of 100 to 130km/h."

Saturday 8am to 4pm

Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Clare.

The forecaster said: "On Saturday morning and afternoon strong southwest to west winds associated with Storm Aiden will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80km/h, with severe and damaging gusts of 100 to 130km/h."

Counties under yellow warning

The entire country will be placed under yellow wind warning from 2am on Saturday night until 4pm on Saturday afternoon.

The forecaster said: "During Friday night and Saturday strong southerly winds veering westerly will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with severe and possibly damaging gusts to around 100km/h.

"Some coastal flooding possible also due to the combination of low pressure, high tides and onshore winds."
