Lisandro Martinez explains what Wout Weghorst has done to impress Manchester United dressing room

Lisandro Martinez has revealed Wout Weghorst has been training well since signing for Manchester United.

Weghorst was on loan at Besiktas until the end of this season, but United paid the Turkish club £2.6million, via Burnley, this January to terminate their agreement with the Clarets early, which allowed him to complete the switch to Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old has joined United on a six-month loan deal, which does not include an option to make it permanent, and he's started in every game since his arrival, making the line up against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

Although Weghorst received praise for his link-up play in his first two matches, he was not a goal threat, but that changed on Wednesday night when he scored his first goal for the club in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final.

Martinez was asked about Weghorst's first goal after the 3-0 victory and he lauded the training performances of the striker.

"As a striker, he lives for the goals and I'm happy for him because he's training very well as well," Martinez told MUTV. "We need that confidence and I'm happy he scored today. Now we have to work for the next game - it's not done yet.

"I think we showed many good things, but still, we have a lot to improve. It's a good result, I think we controlled the game today. In training, we [Lindelof] work with each other and I think we're doing a really good job.

"That's the most important thing when you need a player, we have to be there, we have to be ready and Victor did very well. I think everyone is training hard, you can see now, the last two games were unlucky, we did an amazing job, but we have to keep going."
