While glazed donut nails and blush nails are still dominating our TikTok FYPs, there's a new super shiny mani movement brewing and it takes inspo from the web's latest lip obsession.
As the beauty lovers among us will know, lip oils are having a moment right now, with Gisou's famous honey lip oil reaching viral (and sell-out) status once again on TikTok and even Selena Gomez adding a brand new tinted lip oil to her Rare Beauty range. And much like how Hailey Bieber channeled her love for glazed skin into her famous manicure, we're following suit with our favorite lippies.
So, all aboard the lip oil nail train, here's what the nail look entails and how to recreate it at home...
What are lip oil nails?
Think lip gloss nails and translucent jelly nails, but more natural. Lip oil nails, a term seemingly coined by celeb nail artist Harriet Westmoreland, are all about the high shine, like a 'your nails but super shiny' type of vibe—much like what lip oils help us achieve on our lips.
As Mylee's Senior Brand Ambassador, Tinu Bello explains: "Lip oils are trending all over social media, and it's spilling over to nails. This celebrity favorite look replicates the sheen that a lip oil leaves.
"This nail trend mimics the shiny sheen finish of lip gloss applied on bare lips or nude lipstick. It’s all about that glossy topcoat—you want your nails to shine from every angle and sort of look like jelly."
Celebs are already jumping on the trend, with even the chrome-queen, Hailey Bieber sharing her own pink-tinged lip oil nail look to her story, created by celeb nail artist Dawn Sterling.
How to do lip oil nails at home
So, for anyone wanting to recreate this glossy, liquid-like nail look, Bello says nail prep is everything: "To tap into the trend at home, start with nails that are buffed, super clean, and immaculately filed into shape."
Then for the base shades, Bello says, "Choose between a sheer nude, a pearlescent pink, or a bright popping hue."
Then comes the crucial shine-giving step, Bello says: "Lastly, and most importantly, apply a few coats of a glossy topcoat for the ultimate lip oil finish."
