Lions Week 2 injury designations

The Detroit Lions pulled back the participation levels of starters Taylor Decker (back) and Jarrad Davis (ankle) on Friday and both are listed as Questionable. It’s not fully clear if this was for purposes of rest ahead of a Week 2 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers, or if both players had a setback in their recovery process.

Decker has the arguably the most difficult matchup of the game, squaring up across from EDGE rushers Joey Bosa and/or Melvin Ingram, so a rest day would make sense, while a setback would be challenging for the Lions to overcome.

If Decker is unable to play on Sunday, second-year offensive lineman Tyrell Crosby would step up in his place — as was the case in practice today.

Last season, Crosby played very well at tackle filling in for Decker, but this offseason has been a much different story. Crosby has struggled at every turn and making matters worse, an injury cost him almost the entire preseason. If he is pushed into action, expect the Lions to tie tight end Jesse James to his left hip to help him battle throughout the day.

The Lions’ linebackers have played well in Davis’ absence and another week off for him wouldn’t be the end of the world. Although, anytime you can bring back a captain and defensive signal-caller, you will be a better team for it. Right now, he looks like a game-time decision.

Rashaan Melvin (knee) took what looks like a rest day on Wednesday and has been back in the mix with the starters the last two days. he looks on track to play and does not carry an injury designation into this game.

Despite being listed as Questionable, Da’Shawn Hand (elbow) will likely miss this game, which should not be a surprise after a week of very limited participation levels in practices.
