Lions lose collegiate scouting director Dave Sears to the Cardinals

The Detroit Lions have been fortunate to keep the coaching staff and front office intact through the early days of the offseason. Alas, there is an important loss to the scouting staff.

Director of collegiate scouting Dave Sears is leaving the team to become the assistant general manager of the Arizona Cardinals. Justin Rogers of the Detroit News was the first to report the move.

Sears has been with the Lions since the 2007 season, surviving through three GMs before the current regime. He climbed through the ranks from being a regional scout to becoming in charge of all the college scouts in 2019.

Sears does have a connection with new Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort. The two cut their NFL teeth together with the Houston Texans in the early 2000s.
