Lions 6th round pick Travis Fulgham grew up all around the world

Detroit’s sixth-round selection of wide receiver Travis Fulgham brought the team a worldly savvy uncommon for most rookies. Fulgham has quite an interesting background.

Before enrolling at Old Dominion, Fulgham grew up all over the world. His parents were foreign service agents for USAID. While he was an American citizen, he spent most of his pre-high school years living in exotic locales all over the globe.

He was asked about his vagabond childhood in his initial conference call with Lions reporters after being drafted.

Fulgham listed off the places he’s lived.

“Jordan, India, South Africa, Egypt. I would also say China is one of the most interesting spots, you know, seeing the Great Wall of China and Tiananmen Square. It’s interesting being out there.”

He also talked up Phuket, Thailand as “probably someplace everybody should go. It’s a nice vacation spot.”

His rapid indoctrination into football paid off. Despite just two years of high school football in Virginia and walk-on status at ODU, Fulgham is now a Detroit Lions draft pick.
