Lionel Richie Belsonic gig rescheduled to 2021

Lionel Richie's Belsonic gig, which was due to take place in June this summer, has been rescheduled to a new date in 2021.

The news comes as major outdoor events in Belfast have been rescheduled due to efforts to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

The R&B and pop legend, who was set to play his biggest ever Belfast show, was due to arrive here at the start of June.

His Belsonic gig has now been rescheduled until June 6, 2021.

In a statement, Richie said: "Dear Fans, Out of respect for the safety and well-being of the fans, band, crew and event organizers and due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it is confirmed that my European tour will no longer take place in 2020.

"Every consideration has been given but with the subsequent governmental rulings it is no longer possible to undertake the tour.

"Stay safe & healthy! See you in 2021!"

The rescheduled gig announcement follows yesterday's confirmation from Belsonic organisers that Lewis Capaldi's gig which was scheduled for 2020 will now take place on June 20, 2021.

Picture This and Dermot Kennedy have also moved their headline Belsonic gigs to 2021.

Dermot Kennedy will be playing in Belfast on June 24, while Picture This will play on June 27.

Gerry Cinnamon has also moved his 2020 gig until June 19, 2021.

Belsonic organisers have indicated that there will be further Belsonic announcements to come in due course.
