Lionel Messi delivers verdict after Tottenham's Lo Celso and Romero involved in Argentina chaos

Tottenham duo Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero were at the heart of the chaotic scenes during Argentina's trip to Brazil on Sunday night.

Police officers and health officials stormed onto the field in the first half before detaining four Argentine players for not quarantining, according to various reports.

Lo Celso and Romero, alongside Aston Villa's Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez, were the four players in question as the Spurs duo, as well as Martinez, started the clash before the game was eventually called off.

ANVISA, Brazil's health agency, claimed that the four Premier League players in question had entered the country without declaring that they had arrived from the United Kingdom, with all arrivals from the UK ordered to isolate for 14 days upon arriving in Brazil.

This was obviously impossible for the Tottenham duo, who had both been included in the matchday squad to face Watford last weekend.

While it is thought that all four players were allowed to leave on a flight back to Argentina on Sunday night, it appears likely that Lo Celso and Romero will receive some kind of fine when they return to London.

football.london understands that some figures within Spurs were left disappointed with the duo's decision to make the trip to begin with, which has now been aggravated by ensuing events on Sunday evening.

Now, Argentina captain Lionel Messi has given his verdict on the chaotic incident, questioning why the game was ever allowed to go forward if the plan was to stop it in the opening exchanges.

“Why did they start the game and stop it after five minutes?” asked Messi, as quoted by ESPN.

“We have been here at the stadium for an hour, they could have told us.”
