Lionel Messi and Argentina FA ‘sued for fraud and breach of contract’

  • Lionel Messi and the Argentina Football Association (AFA) are reportedly facing a lawsuit in South Florida for alleged fraud and breach of contract.
  • According to TMZ, the lawsuit, filed by promotional company VID, claims a $7 million deal for exclusive rights to two international matches last October, which stipulated Messi play at least 30 minutes in each.
  • VID alleges Messi failed to play in Argentina's match against Venezuela, and instead watched from a suite which VID claims it paid for, before playing for Inter Miami the following day.
  • The company also claims a loss of over $1 million after the second match against Puerto Rico was moved from Chicago to a smaller venue in Fort Lauderdale, with reasons for the relocation disputed.
  • VID is seeking reimbursement for all financial losses, stating that promised matches in China to rectify the situation have not materialised.
