Linfield boss David Healy sends best wishes to Crystal Palace bound teen

Linfield boss David Healy has sent his best wishes to Cormac Austin following the teenager's move to Crystal Palace. The 16-year-old midfielder completed his move earlier this week.

Austin had been on the radar of a number of cross-channel clubs but decided to join the Eagles who confirmed the move on Monday afternoon. He has agreed a three-year deal with the Premier League club.

The talented teen described his move as "phenomenal". And Blues supremo Healy believes the midfielder will be a hit across the water.

"This is an excellent opportunity for young Cormac at a well established Premier League club in Crystal Palace and on behalf of everyone at the club, I want to extend every best wish to Cormac, as he embarks on the exciting challenge that lies ahead for him.”

Austin, who has captained Northern Ireland at Under 16 level, is set to link up with Palace's U18 squad ahead of the new season.

He said: “I couldn’t believe it when it happened and to be here now, I couldn’t put into words. It’s phenomenal. The facilities are top class, the pitches we play on are immaculate, the camaraderie is amazing and it’s a real family club.

"I can’t wait to get started.”

He added: “I want to do well in the league and also the Youth Cup. I want to try and make a few appearances for the U23s, maybe get on the bench here and there or maybe start.

"It’s a high aim but you have to do it, don’t you. As a player that’s where you want to go.

"You want to get to the next level. For me personally, they’re my goals.”
