Line of Duty series 6: What's the plot, when is it on TV, and who is in it?

Hit show Line of Duty will soon return to our screens for a sixth series.

The BBC1 programme follows DI Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure), Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) and DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) as they carry out anti-police corruption investigations.

The previous series saw the identities of three of the four villains going by the name "H" revealed but so far there are no clues as to what the sixth series could be about.

However, while detail is very limited, there are a few things we do know.

The sixth series will be set 18 months on from what happened in the previous series.

It will feature a new guest lead, DCI Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald), whose suspicious behaviour while leading a murder investigation catches the attention of AC-12.

One of the writers described DCI Davidson as "the most enigmatic adversary AC-12 have ever faced", suggesting she will be a particularly clever and ruthless baddie.

We know that the current plan is to have Line of Duty back on screens at some point during 2021. We could have had it earlier, but filming had to be suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to an interview with the Radio Times, it's not yet been decided whether or not to include Covid-19 in the show, but it could become part of the storyline.

We also know that the series is being filmed once again in Belfast, so familiar characters from the show's past may make a reappearance.

And we're sure there will be at least one high-octane car smash. That's because last week creator Jed Mercurio shared pictures of a white van being toppled onto its side surrounded by stuntmen.

As of yet there's no trailer for series six but as soon as that arrives we will know much more about the plot.

Until then we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for the show's return to BBC1 next year.
