London has been awash with Lime bikes this week as Londoners have sought the services of the rental cycles amidst the Tube strike.
Pavements have been a sea of chaotic green, so no wonder the company is putting on a free festival to curry favour with locals.
On September 12 and 13, Lime is inviting the public to “escape the city” with a pop-up “country club” called the House of Lime.
The event is completely free, with pool tables, soft serve, drinks and a resident DJ, as well as various indoor games and free Lime minutes to get people home.
Activities will include boules, badminton, while meme creator the Real Housewives of Clapton has designed a gallery wall for “a little bit of culture”.
Lime said there will also be bicycle-inspired nail art from Shoreditch Nails on offer, all of which will be done in a Brat green.
The stunt is well-timed given the Tube strike, though it also follows a recent survey by the brand which found that 52 per cent of Londoners seek to leave the capital at the weekend in search of a country escape.
“But for many it’s not so easy,” said Lime, “with 29 per cent of city dwellers saying a lack of transport made the countryside hard to get to, while nearly a quarter (23 per cent) identified the expense as a reason not to visit.”
Lime said it wants to break down barriers in hosting the “country club”.
“No hefty petrol bill, expensive train tickets, long journeys or membership fees required — just the good stuff like ‘rolling lawns’, countryside leisure and the very best east London vibes… all indoors, and with a special Lime twist,” said an announcement.
Obviously, there will be limited space, and given people always love a freebie, we suspect the event will be busy. If you do manage to get in, there’ll be drinks on tap.
The pop-up will open at White Rabbit Studios in Shoreditch and will open between 11am to 7pm. It will operate on a first come basis.
