Lightning re-sign coach for two more years

Netball coach Kylee Byrne has added two years to her contract at the Sunshine Coast Lightning. (AAP)

After leading the club to a fifth consecutive Super Netball finals campaign, Sunshine Coast coach Kylee Byrne has agreed a two-year contract extension.

Byrne was assistant coach to Noeline Taurua when the Lightning won back-to-back titles and made three straight grand finals and took over as head coach ahead of the 2020 season when Taurua stepped down to return to her native New Zealand.

In her maiden campaign, Byrne led the Lightning to the preliminary final where they fell to the West Coast Fever.

In a COVID-interrupted 2021 campaign, Byrne again got the Lightning into the playoffs but their season was ended for the second-straight year by the Fever in the elimination finals.

Byrne, who is also Australia's under-21 coach, said the opportunity to continue building her squad over the next two years was an exciting prospect.

"I have an incredible amount of faith in what this team is capable of and there is so much upside that we are yet to see from this core group."
