Liga MX could soon be on its way back to EA FC after several years away from the franchise, according to new reports surrounding the league’s licensing situation.
The Mexican top flight last appeared in FIFA 22, before being removed from EA Sports’ football titles starting with FIFA 23. Its absence was the result of an exclusive licensing agreement with Konami, publishers of the rival eFootball franchise. That partnership reportedly came to an end last year, fueling speculation that the league’s return to the EA FC series was imminent.
In February 2025, Liga MX was removed from eFootball, seemingly opening the door for a return to EA FC. However, for whatever reason, this return never came to fruition, and by the time EA FC 26 dropped in September, Liga MX was still missing. Predictably, Liga MX’s omission was a shock, which left many wondering what the hold-up was.
An Agreement Has Reportedly Been Reached
According to a report from Los Reporteros, the primary obstacle appears to be Club América’s separate licensing agreement with Konami. While Liga MX’s league-wide partnership has ended, Club América remains the only Mexican club currently featured in eFootball due to its own exclusive deal. The report suggests Liga MX cannot fully return to EA FC until that agreement expires.
Despite the delay, optimism remains high. The report claims a preliminary agreement between Liga MX and EA Sports has been reached, with the expectation that all Mexican clubs will return once remaining exclusivity issues have been resolved. This would include high-profile teams such as Chivas, PUMAS, Tigres, and Club América, all of whom previously had individual or league-level partnerships with Konami.
Liga MX is expected to return as a fully licensed league, complete with authentic teams, player likenesses, logos, and kits. If and when the deal is finalized, Mexican clubs should be playable across multiple modes, including Career Mode, Kick Off, and Ultimate Team. However, there has been no confirmation regarding the inclusion of Mexican stadiums, as iconic venues like Estadio Azteca have not appeared in the series since FIFA 23.
What remains unclear is when Liga MX will make its return to EA FC. In theory, the league could be added as post-launch content to EA FC 26. However, this is EA we’re talking about — they’ll want to milk a big announcement as much as they possibly can. Therefore, my guess is Liga MX will be heavily marketed to the Mexican/North American market ahead of EA FC 27‘s release later this year.
