Lifestyle fashion chain to open its first store in Wales

Friars Walk is set to gain another new trader as a lifestyle brand has announced its first store in Wales.

Fashion and streetwear brand Damaged Society is planning to open in the shopping centre in Newport in the coming weeks, occupying the old Jack & Jones store which closed back in February.

Founded in 2012, Damaged Society opened its first store in Glasgow and has outlets in Edinburgh, Hull, Peterborough, Derby, Nottingham, Bristol, Leeds, Newcastle and Manchester. Newport will be its first Welsh store.

The shop specialises in band merchandise from artists old and new, as well as popular brands such as Vans and Hell Bunny.

Speaking ahead of its opening, Corin Needham from Damaged Society said Newport was a "beautiful place" and that they were "delighted" to be opening in Friars Walk.

"I think our success over the past 10 years is because we really do cater for everyone," she said.

"Our main focus is band merchandise from heavy metal bands such as Metallica, Guns 'n' Roses and AC/DC, right across to new and upcoming artists such as Billie Eilish and Yungblud. So full families can pop into store, and no one leaves empty handed.

"We move with the trends and the styles, as we all know fashion is fast paced, and something that's deemed fashionable one month may differ the next. We strive to stay contemporary, and provide a customer-focused service for each and every member of the public that enters our store.

"We have our very own clothing range, which represents us as a company, and which I'm sure the people of Wales will appreciate just as much as we do."

Corin added that the Newport store, which is aiming to open "by the end of the school holidays", is "putting 110% effort into transforming the store into a boutique-esq shopping experience with affordable prices.

"We are itching to open as I'm sure everyone is raring to get inside and see what we're about," she added.
