A new emote in Overwatch 2 is causing a stir with players for some interesting reasons.
The new emote is available at tier four of the season 18 battle pass, and it's the first universal emote in Overwatch history, meaning any hero can use it. All other emotes in the game are specific to that hero, so this is something of a big deal.

But for many, the execution of this specific animation is lacking. The "Mic Drop" emote has every hero snap into the standing animation, holding a microphone, and then dropping it as many are wont to do when trying to make a point. In theory, it's perfect for an emote to use as an exclamation point after a team wipe or Play of The Game. But fans want more.
"It’s a cool idea but not really thought out well," one player remarked. "Like for D.Va the mic just clips through her fusion cannons when a better alternative would be for D.Va herself to drop the mic."
The very unique character designs throughout the roster make for this emote especially to be a bit weird depending on the hero, with many calling out the floating/flying characters on the roster like Sigma, Zenyatta, Echo, and Juno. But that's just the start of the issue.
"Really not a fan of it," another replied. "The animation looks stiff and the lack of any facial animation makes certain characters look nightmarish, Junkrat especially."
"It really has no business being legendary, if anything," one disgruntled gamer said. "They literally just crammed the same animation onto the skeleton of each hero which is why it looks awkward on so many of them. I like the intent of a universal emote but this really just goes to show how thinly stretched their resources are when it comes to creating cosmetics."
I think the idea of a universal emote is still potentially solid, but the execution certainly needs to be a bit better for future ones. But as some players pointed out, time and resources are needed to individualize them for each hero, which maybe defeats the purpose of having a quick universal emote in the first place.

Either way, the cosmetic doesn't affect gameplay as far as anyone can tell, so for now, chalk this up as a minor gripe for Blizzard Entertainment to take into consideration moving forward for upcoming seasonal additions.
