Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau confirmed their romance during a meet-up with the former prime minister of Japan that fans called the “craziest hard launch”.
The singer, 41, and former Canadian prime minister, 53, were first spotted together in July and made their first public appearance as a couple when they attended a cabaret show in Paris for Perry’s birthday.
And the couple showed no signs of slowing down as they enjoyed a lunch date with the former Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yoko on Thursday.
The duo posed next to Kishida, 68, and Yoko in front of a Christmas tree during their trip to Japan.
Sharing a photo of the two couples on X, Kishida said Trudeau “visited Japan with his partner and joined my wife and me for lunch”.

“During his time as prime minister, we met multiple times as fellow leaders, and when I visited Canada, we worked together to strengthen bilateral relations, including formulating the ‘Japan-Canada Action Plan’, sweating it out side by side,” he wrote.
Kishida added: “I am delighted that we continue to maintain this friendship in this way.”
Trudeau reposted the picture on X, writing: “Great to see you... Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko.
“Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone.”
Kishida replied: "Thank you, Justin. Happy holidays to you and Katy!"
Fans shared their shock at the unlikely gathering on social media, with one writing: "This might be the craziest hard launch in the history of the free world."

Another added on X: "Katy Perry doing international diplomacy. Did not have this on my top risks 2025 list!"
“International relations but make it holiday card energy," a third joked.
"Definitely didn't have this on my bingo card,” someone else admitted.
Perry and Trudeau have been in Japan this week for Perry’s Lifetimes tour and have been spotted watching a sumo wrestling show.
The duo sparked romance rumours in July when they were seen enjoying a cosy dinner date in Montreal.
Sources said in October that Perry is “really into” their connection.
“Katy is really into it. She's very happy,” an insider told Us Weekly.
“She's trying to keep it low-key, and they've spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship.”

They added: “Their friends think they are a good match, but he actually hasn't met a lot of her friends yet.”
Perry confirmed her split from fiance Orlando Bloom earlier this year, with whom she has five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom.
Perry had been dating Bloom since 2016 and the two were engaged on Valentine's Day 2019.
Bloom is also father to 14-year-old son Flynn, who he co-parents with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
Representatives for the pair confirmed over the summer: “Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting.
“They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be - raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.”
Perry was previously married to the comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012.
Trudeau, who was the Canadian Prime Minister from 2015 to 2025, announced his separation from his former wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2023.
The couple called it quits after 18 years of marriage. They share three kids.
