Life near one of Nottinghamshire's best performing primary schools where people are 'great'

Local residents and businesses have shared what life is like living and working in the area of one of the county's best performing schools.

All Hallows Church of England primary school in Gedling is rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted, and a monitoring inspection in November 2020 found the school had transitioned to a blend of face-to-face teaching and online learning well.

The monitoring report noted that some pupils received additional help to catch-up in certain areas, teachers would revisit areas that could have been forgotten and that wellbeing was being prioritised.

The last full report, published in December 2011 following an inspection a month earlier, found a "remarkably positive ethos of warmth, respect and high aspiration for every child is underpinned by strong moral values and exceptional commitment to equality of opportunity".

And locals have spoken highly of what the area is like.

Heidi Potter, owner of Heidi’s Cafe in Westdale Lane East, said: “It is quiet and we’ve been here for years.

“Everyone is really friendly and we get locals come in but not as many come in here now as they used to.

“The schools are good around here.”

Jenna Bradley, 61, who runs Xperience Guitars in Westdale Lane East, said: “The area is good and the community of people are great, people are pleasant and polite.

“Over the last two years, as you can imagine it’s got a lot quieter, we’re 65 percent quieter in terms of profits than where we were last year.”

Bethan Wright, 33, and Dave Golding, 29, who both live locally, were walking their dog in Priory Road.

Ms Wright is pregnant with their first child.

She said: “It’s a really nice, family friendly area, it’s known for having good schools in the area.

“Nearby neighbours left tools out in a garden, and they were stolen, but we’ve not known anything apart from that in our four years here.

“I come from West Bridgford way, and we wanted to find somewhere that was more affordable, and there aren’t too many differences between here and there.

“There are loads of families around here, and good schools were in the back of our minds.”

Aaron Hewitt, 29, a labourer who lives in Priory Road, said: “The area is good, it’s nice and quiet around here.

“It can be a bit busy around here for parking, during school times parking is terrible, especially as there’s only one way in and one way out.

“Other than that, it’s great.”
