Life goes on as usual for residents near Chilwell Retail Park

People who live near Chilwell Retail Park feel there hasn't been a drastic change in life before or after covid restrictions lifted.

The retail park is home to M&S, Pets at Home, Next and more.

Mark Gray, 60, self employed and a nearby resident to the Chilwell Retail Park, said: "The retail park is relatively quiet.

"It's just the odd refrigerated lorry but I think the worst thing is there’s traffic bumps, you can actually hear the lorries going over.

“The retail parks have been here for as long as the houses, there's nothing really to complain about.

“It sounds like it’s back to normal, during the pandemic there was still deliveries because Tesco was open, obviously there was less car traffic.

“We don’t usually get much noise, there used to be a problem with joy riding at night but they put the barriers up now.

“The worst thing about that retail park is the rubbish left from McDonald's which is a problem because you can see it when people chuck their rubbish on top of the walls."

Jane Underwood, 49, an accountant from Nottingham, who was shopping at the retail park explained how throughout the pandemic she would shop online as food shopping was busier during the lockdowns.

She said: "I did everything online.

“I do (wear a mask) but it is everyone's choice.

“I suppose everything is more or less the same it takes time to get used to it,

“I think food shopping was busy in lockdown.

"I can imagine Marks and Spencers to have been busy, but personally I didn't go out to get anything, only if I needed it."

Ken Cooper, 74, retired, a resident opposite Chilwell Retail Park, said: "It’s good, we moved here from Long Eaton where we had to take a car out and put in the shopping.

"Here we don’t, everything is convenient, doctors, chemist, very convenient.

“It’s no different before or after the pandemic.

“My wife does the shopping and goes to Marks and Spencers across the road.”
