Liel Abada attracts Sporting Lisbon transfer 'interest' as Celtic resolve to be tested amid Jota exit countdown

Liel Abada is attracting interest from Sporting Lisbon as Brendan Rodgers braces himself for a swoop on another top star.

The Celtic winger has been an in-demand figure since arriving in 2021 from Maccabi Petah Tikva on a five-year deal under previous boss Ange Postecoglou. The Hoops shelved out only £3.5million for the Israeli who has been integral to the previous back-to-back league title wins under the Australian, capped off by a domestic Treble last campaign. But with impressive performances, the likes of Southampton and Ajax were said to be interested in Abada.

Rodgers could be set to lose top star Jota to Al-Ittihad, with the Hoops on the verge of banking £25million should the Portuguese winger make the move to Saudi Arabia. But now the Irishman could be facing the prospect of his resolve being tested for another wide man in Abada, with Sky Sports News reporting that Lisbon are keen on the winger.

Abada is yet to pen a new contract at Parkhead with his current deal set to run out in 2026, but reports suggest the youngster has not been offered fresh terms. Lisbon are actively looking to recruit this summer if they lose in-demand Marcus Edwards in the window.

The former Spurs academy star, according to the report, is attracting interest from the Premier League and the Portuguese giants could turn to Abada as the solution. It was previously mooted the winger would have a valuation of around £10million, but Sporting have identified him as their 'first choice' should Edwards leave the club.
