LIDL UK is recalling a type of oregano after fears that it contains high levels of a chemical compound that "can lead to liver disease", Trading Standards' has said.
Some pots of the herd have tested positive for the possible presence of high levels of pyrrolizidine alkaloids - which could lead to liver disease if consumed over a prolonged period of time, reports Hull Live.
A statement on Trading Standards' website reads: "Lidl GB is recalling Kania Oregano due to the possible presence of high levels of pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids are naturally occurring; however, prolonged consumption of high levels can lead to liver disease."

Trading Standards says that point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product, which will explain to customers why the Kania Oregano is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
Anybody who has bought the affected product has been advised not to eat it. If you do have one of the affected products, you can take it back to store where you will be issued a full refund.
