Lidl's new chili-flavoured hot chocolate leaves shoppers unimpressed

Lidl was hoping to impress chocolate fans and spice-lovers in one fell swoop - but it appears it hasn't gone down as planned.

The budget supermarket is selling the Deluxe Chili Hot Chocolate for £1.85, describing it as a "rich, smooth drinking chocolate" which "delivers a tingling kick of heat with every sip, warming you up from the inside out in a delicious taste sensation".

It says: "Mix three teaspoons of hot chocolate powder with 200ml of hot semi-skimmed milk, and top with a generous serving of fresh whipped cream and a dusting of dark chocolate shavings for the ultimate hot chocolate at home."

According to our sister title Birmingham Live , the product was posted to the  Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK  Facebook page.

The post racked up 200 likes and dozens of comments after an eagle-eyed customer spotted the item on sale - but not everyone is impressed with the idea.

One wrote: "Twinings is the best instant hot chocolate...no contest."

"Nooooooo that is just wrong," agreed a second.

And a third wrote: "Might be a bit hot."

However, other with more adventurous taste buds loved the idea.

"Wow," one wrote, while another said: "Yummy."

"One for me I reckon!" agreed a third.

But a fourth said: "Horrible".

"Sounds horrible," another reasoned.
