Lidl issues urgent warning to customers as it withdraws product that 'could contain metal'

A major supermarket has recalled a popular sweet treat over fears it contains metal and “may present a risk of injury”.

The Food Standards Agency issued an urgent warning, stating that Lidl has withdrawn its XXL Sondey Stroopwaffel with Caramel Flavour Filling and Butter from shelves.

Packets of 500g with best before dates of November 21, 2025, December 2, 2025 or December 3, 2025 are affected.

In a statement, a Lidl spokesman said: “Lidl GB is recalling the above-mentioned product due to the potential presence of metal foreign bodies, which may present a risk of injury.

“We advise you not to eat it.

“Customers are asked to return this product to the nearest store where a full refund will be given. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The FSA said in a statement: "Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling it. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought it.

“If you have bought the above product do not consume it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
