Lidl issues urgent product recall for select snack products - may contain plastic

Supermarket chain Lidl has issued an urgent recall on four types of snack bar made by Alesto, thanks to the “potential presence of plastic foreign bodies”.

Any customers who have bought the snack bars can take them back to the store they were bought from for a full refund. They are warned not to eat any of them.

The four types of Alesto Raw Fruit & Nut Bars may contain plastic, making them a potential choking hazard and unsafe to eat.

“If you have bought any of the above products do not consume them,” reads the official recall notice from the Food Standards Agency. “Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.”

What products are affected by the Lidl product recall?

The exact products affected by the recall all have best before dates of December 2025 and the batch code L24337, or November 2025 and the batch code L24316.

The recall applies to four different flavours of snack bar:

  • Alesto Cocoa & Orange 5 Raw Fruit & Nut Bars
  • Alesto Blueberry Muffin 5 Raw Fruit & Nut Bars
  • Alesto Salted Caramel 5 Raw Fruit & Nut Bars
  • Alesto Berry 5 Raw Fruit & Nut Bars

Lidl GB has also shared a public notice asserting that no other Alesto products are thought to be affected, as well as apologising for any inconvenience.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation," reads the statement from the supermarket chain to its customers.

Product recalls are far from uncommon, with lots of brands and supermarket issuing similar warnings.

Earlier this year in February, Ambrosia also had to warn customers about the possibility of plastic in some of its My Mini Pots.

With plastic often used in packaging, foreign bits of plastic can make it into food, becoming a potential choking hazard.

Other product recalls can stem from possible allergens or foreign chemicals that shouldn’t be present in food.
